Rights for Retail

This new retail area of the Union’s website is designed specifically for workers in the retail sector. Some areas are still under development, and we will be looking to expand the content over the next few months. In the Contacts area, you will find a list of local contacts if you need them. In the Useful Information section (below), we have provided general advice concerning your rights at work.

Earlier this year the BFAWU successfully received government funds from the Union Modernisation Fund for a project to help engage and support workers in retail bakery and food shops. The first part of the project is to gather information on workers experience and to this extent we need your help. Clicking on this link will allow people to complete the survey and provide the BFAWU with a better understanding of the problems faced and the needs of an under represented industry. Retail bakery and food shop workers experience vulnerability due to isolated sites, isolating shift patterns and variable levels of compliance with employment law. Results from this survey will help provide further insight to address some of these issues and help BFAWU improve models of engagement and support structures for all workers in the industry.
