Celebrating Women in the BFAWU
Helena England Branch 560

My name is Helena England l was an employee at Fox’s Biscuits Batley west Yorkshire.
I did not know much about unions at the time of my employment
l did hear within the workplace that it was good to join a union for representation or if any legal issues you have may arise, because you never know when you may be in need of some help.
Therefore my advice to anyone entering a workplace is once you are settled in your role, ask if there is a union within the workplace, if yes there is, then ask who the union representative is.
Talk to the representative and discuss the union to find out how you go about Joining and becoming a member
This is what l did, l then saw many things that the union could do to help its members and improve working conditions.
So through being a member when opportunities came up for me to become a representative myself l took on the role.
As time went by and through BFAWU training l took on other roles within the union including eventually becoming the branch secretary.
So don’t be afraid to ask your union representative any questions you make require to help you become a union member.
Best thing l did was was to Join the BFAWU
It was like Joining a family making you feel safer and protected within the workplace.
Join a union and help make things better within your workplace.
